You don't want to fool around with the well-being of your Rocket. Not all applications require an expensive Altimeter. Sometimes a simple timer will do the trick. The ASR REC-1 is a dual-timer capable of firing two charges after a pre-set time has elapsed. It functions with a normally open or normally closed switch so your options are vast. You can use a pull-pin, G- or mercury switch. They all work with the REC-1. You get the following when you order the REC-1: Dual-Timer - PCB with pre-soldered components Mercury Switch - Launch detect Slide Switch - Power on/off Battery clip - 9v ASR REC-1 Rocket Event Controller - R300
If knowing the Altitude your Rocket reached is important to you, you'll need an Altimeter. The AIM-USB is the latest in Rocket Altimeters.
Here are the main highlights: - The unit is only 25mm in width and 90mm in length. This means that the minimum diameter projects are easier to do! - You can use any power source from 6v to 14v and this includes small batteries like the A23 if you are using the ASR ejection charges. - Maximum altitude for the unit is in excess of 40000ft MSL. - It records up to 100 seconds per flight. - There is a beep-out of the approximate altitude on recovery so you have an idea what the maximum altitude was before even plugging it in to the PC. - The unit tells you when the drogue and main chutes were deployed. This is useful for setting timers used in a similar rocket. - Firmware updates can be done by the user. This means your unit will always have the latest program loaded without having to send it back to the supplier. - Continuity checking on line A (Drogue) and B (Main) is done on power-up. As well as battery voltage and free memory for recording. - User adjustable settings for Line A and Line B include: Apogee, Altitude and Time. This means staging with the unit is also possible. - All data is stored in non-volatile memory. So, even if the battery is disconnected after a hard landing, the data is still there! - The unit is shipped with software for downloading the data and setting the user-changeable values. - It uses a miniUSB cable that is common on many cell phones and easily obtainable.
